Phumtham Assures Stability Amid Cabinet Reshuffle Speculations

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Vejjayachai has reassured that all ministers remain steady despite speculations about a cabinet reshuffle. Phumtham reiterated that any changes in the cabinet are solely at the discretion of the Prime Minister, following reports suggesting that Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul might assume the role of Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister. He emphasized that ministers continue to fulfill their responsibilities until an official reshuffle is announced.

According to Thai News Agency, Phumtham confirmed that the Pheu Thai Party ministers are not perturbed by the rumors, highlighting the importance of focusing on their current duties. He remarked on the speculation surrounding his own potential transfer to the Ministry of Interior from the Ministry of Defence, stating that such predictions would only lead to unnecessary fatigue. Phumtham maintained that his commitment to his duties remains unchanged, regardless of the rumors.

Phumtham further elaborated on a recent interaction he had with Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, the current Minister of Education, during a ceremony honoring Her Majesty the Queen. He noted that their conversation was cordial and devoid of any issues, underscoring that the decision regarding the reshuffle is entirely the Prime Minister’s prerogative. Phumtham also mentioned that the Prime Minister has not yet discussed any reshuffle plans with him, leaving such decisions to be made independently.

He clarified that there has been no meeting with coalition parties regarding the reshuffle. Phumtham acknowledged that public and media speculation regarding a complete cabinet overhaul is based on expectations and guesses, with no concrete decisions made as of now.
