Bangkok: "Phradon" presided over a meeting of the Mekong River Commission, emphasizing the framework for cooperation for the sustainable development of the Mekong River Basin, developing the use, conservation, and management of resources. Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office, chaired the 2/2025 meeting of the National Mekong Committee of Thailand. He stated that the Mekong River is crucial to economic and social development, as well as the livelihoods of people in the Mekong Basin. Therefore, Mekong River management must prioritize national interests by identifying ways to prevent and minimize transboundary impacts. He also supports the development of mechanisms that enable sustainable access to capital that can be scaled up regionally, and recognizes the need to prepare for future financial self-reliance by 2030, in line with key goals of the Mekong Cooperation Framework.
According to Thai News Agency, promoting and giving importance to the exchange and use of technical, academic, and information data among member countries is essential. Support and importance are given to meetings at the level of leaders of member countries and the Council within the framework of cooperation for the sustainable development of the Mekong Basin. This aims to showcase the country's intention to prioritize the development, use, conservation, and management of water resources and related resources of the Mekong Basin.
For this second meeting, there were six matters for information and four matters for consideration. These matters relate to the operations and progress of important operations under the supervision of the National Mekong River Commission of Thailand, which are linked to the implementation of various projects under the framework of cooperation of the Mekong River Commission.
