Phimai Farmers Reap Financial Success With Watermelon Cultivation

Phimai: Farmers in Phimai District are enjoying substantial financial gains by cultivating watermelons after the rice farming season.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somporn Udomboon from Village No. 5 in Dong Yai Subdistrict successfully transitioned to growing Tum-up watermelons on his 13 rai of land. This strategic move, which requires minimal water and a growth period of just 60-65 days, proved more profitable than cultivating dry season rice. With an investment of 6,000 baht per rai, Mr. Udomboon sold his entire watermelon garden for 170,000 baht.

A middleman, who frequently purchases watermelons from this region, mentioned that she transports the produce to the Korat market. The watermelons are sorted by size, with prices varying from 5 baht to 50 baht per piece. She anticipates doubling her profit as the watermelons are known for their sweetness and vibrant red color.
