Pheu Thai Party Establishes War Room Ahead of Constitutional Court Ruling on PM’s Audio Clip Case

Bangkok: Pheu Thai is preparing to set up a war room on August 29 to monitor the Constitutional Court's ruling on the audio clip of the Prime Minister. They urged MPs not to return to their constituencies yet and offered support to Paethongtarn. They reiterated their confidence in the party leader's innocence and expressed their readiness to push Chaikasem to succeed as Prime Minister if the results prove negative.

According to Thai News Agency, Danupon Punnakanta, spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the Constitutional Court's scheduled reading of its verdict on August 29th regarding the videotaped conversation between Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister and Minister of Culture in her capacity as Pheu Thai Party leader, and Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia. He stated that the party has been discussing this matter for some time, and that the party is concerned about the party leader. However, he expressed confidence in the party leader's innocence and the statement submitted to the Constitutional Court. He added that the party is committed to respecting the Constitutional Court's ruling and supporting the Prime Minister. He believes he is ready to continue his duties if he is reinstated. However, if he is unable to continue in office, the Pheu Thai Party is prepared. He also stated that Chaikasem Nitisiri remains a candidate for prime minister, and that the party is ready to push for C haikasem to become the next prime minister if the court's decision results in Paethongtarn's removal from office.

As for whether he was confident the outcome would be positive, Mr. Danupon said, "We all hope so. No one can predict it, because we cannot know what the Constitutional Court judges will decide. They must make their own decisions and meet together to discuss their opinions before delivering a final verdict on the afternoon of August 29th. No one can predict this, and we respect the Constitutional Court's decision."

Reporters stated that on Friday, August 29th, the Pheu Thai Party will set up a war room to monitor the Constitutional Court's reading of the Prime Minister's ruling. They are requesting the cooperation of all Pheu Thai Party MPs to refrain from returning to their constituencies and to join forces with the Pheu Thai Party to support Ms. Paethongtarn, regardless of the outcome of the ruling.
