Palang Pracharath Party Criticizes Thai PM Over Controversial Remarks

Bangkok: Palang Pracharath Party spokesman, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya Tawichai, expressed deep disappointment over recent remarks made by Thailand's Prime Minister, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. He described the Prime Minister's words as a "stab to the hearts of Thai people," and insisted that no amount of explanation could justify them. The spokesman's comments came in response to an audio clip revealing a conversation between Ms. Shinawatra and Samdech Hun Sen, the President of the Senate and former Prime Minister of Cambodia.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya lamented the fact that Thailand is led by a Prime Minister whom he identified as the 'nephew' of Mr. Hun Sen. This relationship, he suggests, is detrimental to Thai interests. He criticized Ms. Shinawatra for allegedly viewing the Commander of the 2nd Army, a high-ranking official appointed by His Majesty the King, as an adversary. The spokesman also highlighted tensions between the government and the military, particularly concerning military strategies and government-imposed restrictions such as the closure of checkpoints and bans on oil sales.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya further criticized the government's inaction in response to a previous incident involving a Cambodian general, which he believes undermined Thailand's sovereignty. He argued that the Prime Minister's explanation of recent events was inadequate and urged her to resign, fearing that she might follow in the controversial footsteps of her family if she continues in office. He emphasized the need for a leader who truly values and protects Thai sovereignty, suggesting that a mere cabinet reshuffle would not resolve the underlying issues.
