Pakornwut Criticizes Election Commission Over Senator Selection Collusion Concerns

Bangkok: "Pakornwut" raises concerns over the integrity of the Election Commission's role in senator selection, suggesting AI could perform better due to the alleged collusion issues and the origins not meeting requirements. He questions the necessity of a bicameral system and emphasizes the need for public decision-making in future government leadership.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pakornwut Udompipatsakul, Chairman of the Coordinating Committee (Whip) of the Opposition Parties, addressed the upcoming meeting by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) regarding whether to classify the alleged senator selection collusion as a special case. He expressed skepticism over the Election Commission's (EC) performance, suggesting disparities in their efficiency and questioning whether they have addressed such cases promptly and impartially. The legal authority of the DSI in this matter was also highlighted as a possible point of contention.

Mr. Pakornwut criticized the origins of the Senate as per the 2017 Constitution, claiming they fail to satisfy necessary requirements and incite issues. He questioned the relevance of having a two-house system and urged society to reconsider the current Senate structure. He emphasized the importance of revisiting the constitutional origins of the senators, suggesting that they should be democratically elected by the populace nationwide.

He further critiqued the EC's role, arguing that their adherence to legal procedures alone is insufficient and that they should have proactively identified flaws in the selection process. He proposed the use of AI for the EC's responsibilities, implying that it might outperform human oversight.

When questioned about potential political power struggles, Mr. Pakornwut reiterated that the core issue lies in the constitutional origins of the senators. He expressed readiness for a new election, advocating for public choice in determining government leadership, and confirmed that the Prachachon Party would not join the current government coalition.
