Officials Rush to Drain Water from Flooded Pile Holes in Recovery Effort

Bangkok: Speeding up efforts to recover bodies from pile holes, officials are working tirelessly to drain water and fortify the site. It is anticipated that if the weather remains clear, the bodies will be retrieved today.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phet Phumma, Director of Pom Prap Sattru Phai District, provided an update on the situation. He revealed that the ongoing heavy rain had caused significant flooding in the pile holes and surrounding areas, leading to cracks in the existing three layers of sheet piles. In response, a fourth layer has been constructed, extending the depth to 9.5 meters from the original 7.5 meters. Officials are employing water pumps to expedite the drainage process, and if the rain holds off, it is expected that the bodies will be recovered today.

Yesterday, a promising sign was noted when a glove with a piece of flesh attached was discovered, although the complete body has yet to be found. Authorities remain optimistic that the body is within the designated search area. Assuming no further obstacles arise, the body is anticipated to be retrieved today.

This afternoon, Chadchart Sittipunt, the governor of Bangkok, is scheduled to visit the site and monitor the ongoing recovery efforts.
