Off-Road Truck Overturns and Reservoir Embankment Breaks in Thailand

Phetchabun: An off-road pickup truck skidded and overturned on a cliff slope in Phetchabun Province.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on May 25th while the truck was descending the hill at Pha Tad in Khek Noi Subdistrict, Phetchabun Province. The vehicle lost control midway, skidding down the slope and overturning with its wheels pointing skyward. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported despite the precarious situation. An individual who attempted to assist also found themselves skidding due to the slick conditions.

Pha Tad is a well-known tourist spot, popular with off-road enthusiasts and dirt bikers, but it also poses dangers. The location has seen previous accidents, including a fatal overturning incident involving an off-road vehicle three years ago.

In a separate incident, heavy rain caused the embankment of the Khao Laem Reservoir in Chai Nat Province to break, leading to significant flooding. The Khao Laem Reservoir, part of the U-Tapao-Rai Phatthana Pumping Station in Rai Phatthana Subdistrict, Manorom District, experienced a collapse of its embankment on May 26th. The breach, over 15 meters wide, resulted in more than 70,000 cubic meters of water inundating agricultural land across more than 70 rai in Village 1 of Rai Phatthana Subdistrict. The force of the escaping water also damaged Nong Tat Ton Road, which runs adjacent to the reservoir.
