Flooding Forces Closure of Waterfalls and Impacts Communities in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai: Heavy rain throughout Chiang Mai Province has led to severe flooding, resulting in the closure of three popular waterfalls and causing significant disruption in several communities. Flash floods have swept through the region, prompting officials to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

According to Thai News Agency, the head of Doi Suthep National Park has ordered the closure of Mae Sa Waterfall, Tad Mok Waterfall in Mae Rim District, and Mok Fa Waterfall in Mae Taeng District. The decision was made due to rapidly rising water levels and the muddied red appearance of the water, which poses a risk to tourists due to the fast-flowing currents.

In the Chiang Mai Municipality area, the downpour on Doi Suthep and in the city has led to floodwater overflowing into streams, drains, and into Khlong Khu Wai. This has caused significant flooding in the Sri Ping Muang, Fa Mai, and Kad Kom communities. Water levels have reached between 30 to 50 centimeters, rendering small cars unable to pass and affecting residents and businesses across a wide area. Despite these challenges, efforts are underway as Chiang Mai Municipality authorities work urgently to pump out the accumulated water.
