NT Mob Pressures NBTC to Cancel Frequency Auction

Bangkok: NT mob pressures NBTC to cancel frequency auction after 2 mobile operators compete to bid for 2,100 and 2,300 MHz waves. Reporters reported that the NBTC office opened the auction of telecommunication frequency waves, 850 MHz, 1500 MHz bands, especially the 2,100 MHz and 2,300 MHz bands, which are frequencies for mobile services, with only two mobile operators submitting bids.

According to Thai News Agency, a group of people from the State Enterprise Labor Union of the National Telecom Public Company Limited, led by Mr. Pongthiti Phongsilamanee, former chairman, along with Mr. Manop Keorat, secretary-general of the State Enterprise Labor Relations Confederation, led the crowd to block the NBTC office to demand the end of the new frequency auction round of 4 frequency bands.

The NBTC has arranged security personnel and coordinated with police officers to maintain order, and closed the entrance to prevent groups of people from entering the area of this auction.

The protesters parked pickup trucks and trucks with sound systems in front of the gate, asking the NBTC to cancel the auction because they saw it as unfair and could cause the state to lose out on benefits from only two bidders.
