Bangkok: The National Security Council (NSC) is set to finalize the framework for discussions on the General Border Committee (GBC) by September 10. The framework will be discussed in a key meeting scheduled for September 8.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, chaired a meeting of the NSC, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister. The meeting, attended by high-ranking officials including General Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, Mr. Maris Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the NSC, lasted nearly three hours.
Following the meeting, Mr. Phumtham announced that the NSC had approved the framework and issues to be discussed at the GBC. This framework will be further refined in discussions between the Thai and Cambodian secretariats. Once the framework is finalized, the proposals will be presented to the NSC on September 8, followed by a Cabinet meeting on September 9. The finalized framework will then be presented at the GBC meeting on September 10.
Mr. Chatchai informed reporters that the details of the framework will remain confidential until discussions are completed. When questioned about Mr. Phumtham’s role in the upcoming NSC meeting, Mr. Chatchai confirmed that the current working group would remain in office until the new Cabinet is sworn in.
