Newborn Baby’s Body Discovered Burned in Khon Kaen Sugarcane Field

Bangkok: The body of a newborn baby was found burned in a kiln in a sugarcane field in Khon Kaen. Shocking news: Villagers found a newborn baby burned in a charcoal kiln in a sugarcane field in Ban Fang District, Khon Kaen Province. Police are investigating whether the baby was still alive before it was burned.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Lieutenant Nattawat Kaewhan, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Ban Fang Police Station, received a report that villagers had found a newborn baby burned in a charcoal kiln at Ban Hin Hao, Village No. 4, Non Khong Subdistrict, Ban Fang District, Khon Kaen Province. He therefore went to inspect the scene along with investigative police officers.

At the charcoal kiln, the body of a newborn infant of unknown gender was found partially burned inside the charcoal kiln pit. There were bloodstains in the pit where the infant was burned and the fire was still bright red. Doctors from Ban Fang Hospital and officers from the Forensic Science Center 4, Khon Kaen, inspected the scene.

Pol. Col. Koraphop Netthaisong, Superintendent of Ban Fang Police Station, said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the baby was a newborn with the umbilical cord still attached. However, the baby's gender was unknown because its lower half had been burned. The charcoal kiln was located in a villager's sugarcane field.

The witness who discovered the body testified that while he was out in the sugarcane field, he smelled an unusual burning odor. He followed the smell to investigate and found a baby being burned in a charcoal kiln, but no one was nearby. Therefore, he still does not know whose child the baby is or who the perpetrator was.

Initially, officials, along with doctors from Ban Fang Hospital, performed an autopsy and sent the body to the Department of Forensic Medicine at Srinagarind Hospital to determine the true cause of death: whether the infant died before being cremated or was still alive at the time of the cremation.

Meanwhile, investigative police are currently conducting field visits and gathering information on pregnant or recently given birth women in the area. They will be available to provide statements. If any villagers identify any suspicious individuals, they are encouraged to provide information to the police.
