Bangkok: The NCPO and CCSA have called on Cambodia to strictly adhere to the ceasefire agreement, emphasizing the need for immediate compliance. They also urged for the welfare of Thai citizens in Cambodia to be ensured, similar to how Thailand cares for Cambodians residing within its borders.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (CBSA) in a statement to the Special Task Force on Border Situation Administration (SSABA). She stressed the importance of the ceasefire as a foundational step towards reducing tensions. Maratee highlighted Thailand's previous day's actions, which included sending a negotiation team to reaffirm its stance against past sovereignty violations, the loss of lives, and other incidents along the border. She emphasized that these issues should not recur and reiterated the call for reciprocal care for Thai citizens in Cambodia.
Thailand has expressed its commitment to finding a mutually agreed solution, marking a significant step towards securing peace along the border. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out the recent revival of bilateral negotiation mechanisms and noted the occurrence of informal talks between regional army commanders. Upcoming meetings, including a GBC meeting on August 4th and a JBC meeting in September, were announced as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the situation.
The Thai government has demanded transparency from Cambodia regarding attacks on civilians, underlining that the ceasefire should align with international law, including humanitarian law. Recognizing the fragile nature of the initial ceasefire agreement, Thailand intends to closely monitor its implementation to ensure a return to normalcy. The government expressed gratitude towards countries that have acknowledged the ceasefire agreement's compliance, reiterating its dedication to preserving sovereignty, maintaining territorial balance, and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
