NBTC Approves New Frequencies for Wireless Microphones in Thailand

Bangkok: The NBTC Subcommittee on Radio Frequency and Technical Standards has approved three draft announcements regarding the use of radio frequency and technical standards for wireless microphones.

According to Thai News Agency, the NBTC meeting No. 31/2025, held on October 22, 2025, led to the approval of these drafts. The newly approved announcements include the technical standards for telecommunication equipment, criteria for the use of radio frequencies, and standards for digital radio communication equipment using DECT technology.

These initiatives aim to support the increasing use of wireless microphones, particularly for large-scale events, concerts, and television broadcasts, reinforcing Thailand's position as a leading global conference and event center. The widespread use of wireless microphones across various sectors, such as education, entertainment, and media production, has resulted in congestion and reliance on outdated technology. Consequently, additional frequencies will be provided to enable effective public use without requiring permission for unlicensed bands.

The approved measures by NBTC include improvements in technical standards to support frequencies higher than 200 kHz for multichannel audio systems, an increase in the 1880-1900 MHz band frequency range to support DECT technology, and an enhancement in the 470-694 MHz band frequency range for potential future adjustments in terrestrial television usage. Additionally, technical standards and electrical safety will be updated to align with current wireless microphone frequencies and technologies.

These approvals not only enhance public access to wireless microphone frequencies but also equip Thailand with the necessary technology to establish itself as a global hub for conferences, events, and concerts. This development ensures audio control and broadcasting using modern technology, positioning Thailand on par with other developed nations.
