Nam Yun Villagers Remain Uncertain Amid Thai-Cambodian Negotiations

Nam Yuen: Villagers in Nam Yuen, Ubon Ratchathani Province, are not confident, despite talks between Thailand and Cambodia, to clean up bomb shelters and prepare for evacuation in case of violent incidents.

According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere in Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, still has soldiers on standby continuously, blocking the entrance to Chong Bok, prohibiting people and villagers from entering the area at all costs. Meanwhile, the Chong An Ma relaxation point, which is a trade checkpoint between Thailand and Cambodia at this time, is still open for villagers to trade as usual, but the media is not allowed to enter the area.

Local sources said that after the negotiations yesterday, the Thai government announced a total of 3 agreements with Cambodia. However, recently, on social media, there has been a release of a document announcing the Cambodian side's agreement of 4 points. This has caused concerns in the area about whether an agreement can actually be reached or whether the Cambodian side will agree to retreat from the 200-meter line of confrontation. All of this has not yet been announced to the people in the area.

While many villages in Nam Yuen District, which are at risk, are cleaning their bomb shelters to prepare for the possibility of violence, each village's bomb shelters are permanently constructed of concrete and are stable.
