NACC Concludes Investigation on 44 Move Forward Party MPs

Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has announced the conclusion of its investigation into the case involving 44 former members of the Move Forward Party. The investigation, which focused on the MPs' involvement in proposing and signing a draft amendment to Section 112 of the Criminal Code, has now reached the stage where individual conduct will be examined to address the varying facts of each case. The NACC aims to finalize its findings by December, independent of the forthcoming election schedule.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surapong Intarathaworn, Deputy Secretary-General of the NACC and current acting Secretary-General, provided updates on the status of the investigation. He noted that charges have been filed against multiple individuals, and some have taken the opportunity to clarify these charges. The NACC has allowed a 15-day window for these clarifications, with extensions granted for additional evidence submission, all within the stipulated timeframe.

Mr. Surapong explained that the investigation panel will now assess all evidence before presenting its conclusions to the NACC meeting. He stressed that no further investigation is required at this stage, although he is prepared to clarify any potential delays. He emphasized the importance of the right to defense and the legal process for proving innocence.

He further stated that the NACC will individually evaluate the evidence and testimonies related to each accused party. This approach recognizes that each individual's actions in signing the bill vary in terms of legal and factual context.

Mr. Surapong assured that the NACC operates neutrally, without bias towards any political entity, and is not influenced by the election timeline. The process is strictly evidence-based. He indicated that individual trials are anticipated to begin in mid-October, with potential completion by November. The expected conclusion by December 2025 will not be politically driven, he affirmed.
