Bangkok: Mr. Suchart Trakulkasemsuk, Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), spearheaded a public seminar aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to bolster the efficiency of corruption prevention and suppression strategies in Thailand. During his opening remarks at the event titled "Using AI to Suppress Corruption," he emphasized the detrimental impact of corruption on business operations, public image, and national development. Corruption, he noted, disrupts business, tarnishes reputations, erodes confidence, and obstructs national progress. As a result, organizations are compelled to adopt stringent preventive measures and cutting-edge technologies to mitigate these issues. While AI serves as a powerful tool for enhancing efficiency, it is not a panacea for detecting all forms of corruption, necessitating the continued integration of human judgment.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchart highlighted the need for organizations to synergize technology and human expertise to effectively combat potential corruption, thereby safeguarding organizational integrity and building stakeholder trust. This approach, he suggested, is essential for sustainable business operations. He expressed optimism that participants in the seminar would implement AI-driven practices within public and governmental sectors to enhance corruption prevention and suppression efforts.
In a subsequent interview, Mr. Suchart elaborated on the role of technology, particularly data, in this initiative. He expressed hope for future expansions in data collection to aid decision-making processes. However, he emphasized that justice should remain a human endeavor, cautioning against allowing AI to override human decision-making. Current applications of AI in anti-corruption efforts include the use of drones, maps, and historical aerial photographs to verify official documents.
Regarding the potential of AI to reduce corruption, Mr. Suchart asserted that AI could improve decision-making and enhance the accuracy of evidence evaluation.
