Bangkok: Mr. Rangsiman Rome, MP for the party list and Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, has expressed his regret over the incident involving Thai soldiers stepping on landmines and has called for restraint in social media discourse to prevent further escalation of tensions. This comes amid ongoing discussions around the Thai-Cambodian border situation, which Mr. Rome is closely monitoring as Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on State Security, Thai Border Affairs, National Strategy, and Reform.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rome highlighted the complexity of the border issues and the need for diplomatic discussions between Thailand and Cambodia. He emphasized the importance of addressing the call center gang problem as a priority, suggesting that both countries need to engage in talks to resolve this issue. He noted the necessity of cooperation from both sides, highlighting that Cambodia's perspective on the matter differs from Thailand's.
Mr. Rome also discussed the challenges faced by both countries due to restricted movement across the border, affecting trade and labor. He urged the Thai government to engage in diplomatic talks with Cambodian authorities, especially if Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet is willing to crack down on call center gangs.
The potential recall of ambassadors as a diplomatic measure was also addressed by Mr. Rome, who stressed the need for clear communication and strategic planning by the Thai government. He criticized the government's slow response to the situation and called for decisive action to resolve the crisis.
Mr. Rome acknowledged that the current political instability in Thailand, partly due to the absence of a functioning prime minister, complicates the resolution of border issues. He expressed concerns about the government's legitimacy and its ability to address the crisis effectively.
Regarding the construction of a fence around the Ta Muen Thom temple, Mr. Rome advised against actions that might provoke further conflict with Cambodia. He emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and avoiding measures that could lead to international disputes.
Finally, Mr. Rome expressed his condolences over the recent landmine incident involving Thai soldiers and urged for a thorough investigation into the matter. He reiterated his commitment to closely following up on the situation and engaging with the military to prevent future occurrences.
