Mongkol to Discuss Delay of Vote on Independent Organizations with Senate Whip

Bangkok: "Mongkol" has scheduled a meeting with the Senate whip to discuss the delay in the vote concerning independent organizations. This meeting, set to take place tomorrow, aims to address the request to postpone the vote for selecting committee members of independent organizations.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phisit Apiwattanapong, who serves as a Senator and the Spokesperson of the Senate Special Committee (Senate Whip), provided insights into the situation. He highlighted the constitutional and regulatory obligations of the Senate, emphasizing that the Senate must fulfill its duties to avoid any accusations of dereliction. Mr. Phisit expressed that unless there is a conclusive decision or a court order stopping the Senate from performing its duties, they are obligated to proceed according to established rules. The agenda for selecting members of independent organizations has already been included in the Senate meeting scheduled for May 30.

When questioned about the public's call for the Senate to delay the vote, Mr. Phisit mentioned his uncertainty about the extent of public sector involvement. However, he reassured that the Senate operates strictly within legal boundaries and cannot act outside the legal framework.

Regarding potential issues arising from the situation, Mr. Phisit admitted to not having detailed knowledge. He noted that a Senate whip meeting, chaired by Mr. Mongkol Surassajja, the President of the Senate, is scheduled for May 28 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will revisit the relevant details and may result in a review or postponement of the vote. Further information will be available following the Senate whip meeting.
