Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport has put forward a proposal to the Cabinet for the preparation of gifts for the public during the Songkran Festival. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, revealed that the proposal is awaiting inclusion in the Cabinet's agenda. He also addressed concerns surrounding safety on Rama 2 Road, noting that fatalities are often due to carelessness rather than construction-related incidents.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry's proposed measures for Songkran 2025 include waiving fees on expressways and motorways, increasing train and electric train services, boosting public transport and bus trips, adding 124 flights or 25,000 seats, and reducing ticket prices by 30%. Additionally, enhanced control and facilitation of boat travel are planned.
When questioned about the possibility of increasing air ticket availability beyond 25,000 seats, Mr. Suriya indicated that discussions with the private sector suggest this figure is appropriate, as it surpasses previous provisions.
Addressing safety concerns on Rama II Road, Mr. Suriya acknowledged public apprehension but clarified that most accidents are similar to those on other roads, often involving factors like drunk driving and speeding. He expressed confidence that the completion of the expressway project would lead to a reduction in accidents and improve traffic flow on Rama II Road.
