Bangkok: The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the Royal Irrigation Department's dam remains unaffected by the recent earthquake, assuring the public of their safety. According to Thai News Agency, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, received a report from Mr. Suriyapol Nuchanong, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, detailing the results of a dam inspection following the earthquake in Myanmar, which caused tremors felt in Thailand. The acceleration measurement at the dam showed values between 0.00505 and 0.01647 g. These measurements are well below the design standards of the Royal Irrigation Department and the International Organization for Large Dams (ICOLD), which accommodate accelerations up to 0.2 g. Consequently, the earthquake did not compromise the dam's stability. The Royal Irrigation Department has engineered all dams to endure the highest earthquake risk levels in Thailand. It also continuously monitors statistical data on maximum acceleration values from earthquakes to evaluate their impact on dams, ensuring the safety and integrity of structures for those living downstream. Further, the Director-General has instructed subordinate agencies to ensure that machinery and tools are ready to address any situations that may arise. Residents in the northern, central, and Bangkok regions are advised to stay informed through government communications. In related activities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon, leader of the Kla Tham Party, attended a meeting to establish a party branch in Khon Kaen Province. The meeting included Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, MP for Phayao and chairman of the Kla Tham Party's advisory board, along with the party's executive board. Before commencing the meeting, Lt. Col. Thammanat requested attendees to observe a moment of silence and pray for the earthquake victims in Bangkok, including the missing and deceased, for about one minute.
