Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has alerted the public to the impending dangers posed by heavy rain in specific regions of Thailand. Residents in Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chanthaburi, and Trat are advised to exercise caution due to potential flash floods and mudslides.
According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department forecasts that Thailand will continue to experience heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. The low-pressure cell over upper Vietnam, combined with the moderate southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, is the cause of the persistent heavy rain. Residents, particularly those living on hillsides near waterways and in low-lying areas, should remain vigilant as accumulated rainfall heightens the risk of flash floods and forest runoff.
The Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate wave activity, with the upper Andaman Sea witnessing waves approximately 2 meters high. Waves in the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand range from 1 to 2 meters, escalating to over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Sailors are advised to navigate with care and avoid regions experiencing thunderstorms.
Additionally, tropical storm 'Danas' has made landfall in Zhejiang Province, China, and is expected to weaken into a depression. While this storm will not directly impact Thailand's weather, it will moderate the southwest monsoon covering the country. Travelers to the affected areas are encouraged to verify weather conditions prior to their journeys.
