Meteorological Department Warns Six Thai Provinces of Imminent Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Risks

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department warns six provinces: Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chanthaburi, and Trat to prepare for heavy rain, which may cause flash floods and mudslides.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department reported that Thailand will continue to experience heavy rain in some areas, with very heavy rain expected particularly in the eastern region. Residents in the provinces of Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chanthaburi, and Trat are advised to be vigilant of the potential dangers posed by heavy and accumulated rain, which could lead to flash floods and forest runoff. These risks are heightened in areas on hillsides, near waterways, and lowlands due to a low-pressure cell over northern Vietnam and the moderate southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The department also highlighted that the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate wave activity. The upper Andaman Sea presents waves about 2 meters high, while the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand have waves ranging from 1 to 2 meters. In regions experiencing thunderstorms, wave heights may exceed 2 meters. Consequently, sailors are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas prone to thunderstorms.

Moreover, from July 11 to 13, the North, Northeast, East, and South of Thailand are anticipated to face heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas. This weather pattern is attributed to the monsoon trough passing through upper Myanmar, upper North, upper Northeast, and upper Vietnam. Additionally, the low-pressure cell over upper Vietnam is expected to traverse along this monsoon trough, while the moderate southwest monsoon continues to dominate the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
