Meteorological Department Warns of Severe Weather Conditions Across Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain across Thailand, which could lead to flash floods, mudslides, and landslides. The forecast covers the northern, northeastern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the eastern region and the western coast of the southern region. Residents are advised to stay vigilant against the dangers of such conditions, particularly in areas prone to flash floods, forest runoff, and mudslides, especially on hillsides near waterways and lowland areas.

According to Thai News Agency, the monsoon trough affects the lower central, eastern, and upper southern regions, while the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is moderate. The department advises caution when traveling through areas with thunderstorms and recurring flooding issues, especially in low-lying areas susceptible to short-term flooding. Farmers are encouraged to improve drainage systems to minimize potential damage to crops and livestock.

In the Andaman Sea, waves are reported to be moderate, with the upper Andaman Sea experiencing waves about 2 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, the waves rise above 2 meters. Sailors are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas experiencing thunderstorms, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are recommended to remain ashore.

The regional weather forecast indicates an 80% chance of thunderstorms in Bangkok and surrounding areas, with heavy rain expected in some regions. Temperatures will range between 24-33 degrees Celsius, with southwesterly winds of 10-20 km/hr. The northern region will see thunderstorms in 80% of the area, while the northeastern region will have thunderstorms in 70% of its area. The central region expects similar conditions, with a high chance of heavy rain in several provinces.

The eastern region forecasts thunderstorms in 70% of its area, with heavy rain in several provinces, and the southern region's east and west coasts will experience thunderstorms in 60-80% of the area. The department emphasizes the need for caution in sea navigation, particularly in areas with thunderstorms, where wave heights can exceed 2 meters.
