Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rain in Northern and Northeastern Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand will continue to experience heavy rainfall, affecting several provinces. Residents in these areas are urged to prepare for possible flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows.

According to Thai News Agency, the provinces expected to be most affected include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan. The heavy and accumulated rainfall poses a risk of flash floods and overflowing rivers, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying regions. The current weather conditions are attributed to a strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, coupled with a low-pressure system in northern Vietnam.

Wave conditions in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with waves reaching approximately 2 meters high. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves may exceed this height. In the lower Andaman Sea, waves range from 1 to 2 meters, but can also exceed 2 meters during thunderstorms. Sailors are advised to proceed with caution and avoid areas experiencing thunderstorms.

The tropical storm "Komai," currently in the Pacific Ocean, is projected to move towards the southern part of Japan and is not expected to impact Thailand.
