Mae Hong Son Governor Conducts Urgent Inspection of Luang Pho Yai Wat Muang Structure After Earthquake

Mae Hong Son: Mae Hong Son Governor Ekkawit Meepian, alongside relevant agencies, conducted an inspection of the earthquake-induced damage at key locations in the Mae Hong Son District, with particular attention to the towering structure of Luang Pho Yai Wat Muang, which is equivalent in height to a 40-story building.

According to Thai News Agency, the inspection included Srisangwan Hospital, a significant high-rise facility frequented by many individuals seeking medical treatment. Another critical site assessed was Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, a culturally and historically significant location that is also one of the province's major tourist attractions. The Governor assured that while Mae Hong Son Municipality reported no immediate damage from the earthquake, preparations and monitoring for potential aftershocks over the next 48 hours are underway.

Phra Khru Suphat Khet Sunthon, the abbot of Wat Muang, along with temple officials, swiftly evaluated the structural integrity of the Luang Pho Yai Buddha image and its surrounding areas. The statue, known as Phra Phuttha Maha Nawaminthra Sakyamuni Si Wiset Chai Chan, experienced the tremors from an earthquake in Burma, which impacted Ang Thong Province for several minutes. Preliminary inspections revealed no visible cracks or subsidence in the statue or its foundations, even as renovation efforts continue at the site.
