Bangkok: The knife-wielding attacker who injured actor and singer Peck Palitchoke Ayanaputra has apologized, claiming he acted in self-defense. The incident took place at a gas station on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 76 in the Bang Kapi district, where the attacker, 21-year-old Chutithep, alleged he was trying to intervene in an argument when Peck Palitchoke approached him.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Investigators from Huamark Police Station reported a knife wound at the scene. Upon arrival, they found Peck Palitchoke with a severe injury under his chin. He received first aid before being taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, Chutithep, who was carrying a 20-centimeter knife, waited to surrender to the police at the scene and was taken in for questioning.
Chutithep recounted that he was on his way to pick up his girlfriend from work when he stopped at the gas station and noticed two intoxicated individuals arguing in a pickup truck. As he attempted to mediate, Peck allegedly approached him, prompting Chutithep to use his pocket knife in self-defense. His girlfriend then contacted the police.
Police Colonel Naren Krungsanuk, Superintendent of Huamark Police Station, indicated that the incident might have been a misunderstanding. Both parties are to be questioned further, as Peck Palitchoke, still in the hospital, has yet to provide his statement. Chutithep faces charges for carrying a knife without a permit and assault.
The rescue team described assisting Peck at the gas station and witnessing the incident upon the police's arrival. They suspect an earlier argument between the two may have led to the attack.
Chutithep, alongside his girlfriend, told police that he did not intend to stab Peck but was defending himself after Peck allegedly attacked him. He also mentioned a prior road conflict involving Peck's car, which resulted in a stop at the gas station. Chutithep has expressed regret for the incident and emphasized his intent was self-defense.
Peck Palitchoke's condition was updated on the Facebook page PeckPalitOfficial, assuring fans that he is currently safe and promising further updates.
