Nonthaburi: A suspect identified as "A Hualai" was shot and arrested after stabbing a police officer at the Nonthaburi City Police Station. The incident occurred during a chase when A Hualai attacked an officer, prompting another officer to open fire, resulting in the suspect being wounded.
According to Thai News Agency, police helmet cameras recorded the event as two officers from Nonthaburi Police Station pursued two suspicious motorcycles. When the officers attempted to conduct a search, the riders fled into Soi Nonthaburi 33. A Hualai, whose real name is Mr. Ratthawat, lost control of his motorcycle after hitting a speed bump and fled into nearby grass. During the pursuit, A Hualai stabbed one officer in the stomach in an attempt to escape. Another officer responded by shooting him in the arms to prevent further violence. A search of A Hualai revealed 1,312 methamphetamine pills, 19.89 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 3.82 grams of ketamine. He was taken to the hospital and is currently in the ICU after surgery.
Initially, charges were filed against A Hualai for obstructing a police officer and possessing illegal drugs with intent to sell. A background check revealed his involvement in previous drug-related offenses and other crimes at Chai Phrik Police Station.
Mr. Nueng, A Hualai's brother, expressed concerns over the police's use of force during the arrest. He claimed that his brother did not resist arrest and questioned the necessity of using a firearm. Mr. Nueng stated that his brother is not violent and believes the police could have handled the situation differently without resorting to gunfire.
Pol.Sgt.Maj.Nakarin Panan, the officer who was stabbed, was unharmed due to wearing a bulletproof vest. Pol.Sgt.Maj.Nathawat Ketkaew, the officer who shot A Hualai, acted to stop the attack. Pol.Maj.Gen.Chokchai Ngamwong, deputy commander of Provincial Police Region 1, recognized the officers for their dedication and provided them with monetary encouragement.
