King Approves ‘Paethongtarn Cabinet 1/2’ with Prime Minister Also Serving as Minister of Culture

Bangkok: His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has formally approved the new cabinet lineup, known as "Paethongtarn 1/2", which includes Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra as the Prime Minister, who will also hold the position of Minister of Culture. The royal approval marks a significant reshuffle in the Thai government's administrative structure. According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Gazette website published an official announcement regarding the dismissal and appointment of ministers, based on the royal decree dated 16 August 2024. The reshuffle sees Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai being appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The changes are part of an effort to fill vacant positions and enhance the efficiency of the country's administration, as empowered by Section 158 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. Several key resignations were noted, including Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai from his former role as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and Ms. Narumon Pinyosinwat from her position as Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The list of new appointments includes Mr. Suchart Tancharoen as the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, Ms. Sudawan Wangsupakitchkosol as the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn as the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Further appointments include Mr. Chatuporn Buruspat as Minister of Commerce and Mr. Chantawit Tanthasit as Deputy Minister of Commerce. Mr. Decha Isam Khaothong has been appointed as Deputy Minister of the Interior, and Mr. Pongkawin Juangroongruangkit takes on the role of Minister of Labor. In the education sector, Mrs. Narumon Pinyosinwat has been appointed as Minister of Education, with Ms. Linthiporn Warinwatcharoj and Mr. Tewan Liptapanlop serving as Deputy Ministers of Education. The health sector sees Mr. Anucha Sasomsap and Mr. Chaichana Dechadecho as Deputy Ministers of Public Health. This reshuffle comes into effect as of June 30, 2568, marking the 10th year of the current reign, with Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra acting under the royal command as Prime Minister.
