Bangkok: A second-hand jeans vendor grabbed a gun and shot a rival vendor selling the same pair of jeans in the middle of a market, injuring two after he thought his opponent was dead before shooting himself. Rat Burana Police Station received a report of a shooting incident with injuries and deaths. The incident occurred at a market in Soi Pracha Uthit 61, Bang Mot Subdistrict, Thung Khru District, Bangkok. They rushed to investigate along with officers from the Forensic Science Division, a doctor on duty from the Department of Forensic Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, and volunteers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation.
According to Thai News Agency, at the scene in front of the second-hand jeans stall, the body of Mr. Kanokpol, 72 years old, the owner of the jeans stall, was found lying on his right side, wearing a black and white long-sleeved plaid shirt and white pants. He had a gunshot wound from a 9 mm gun to his forehead, which went through the back of his head once. Near the body, a 9 mm gun and 3 bullet casings were found at the scene, which were collected as evidence. In addition, 2 injured people were found who had been shot by guns. They were identified as Mr. Chusak, 62 years old, the owner of the second-hand jeans stall near the scene, who was shot once in the right back and was sent to Suk Sawat Hospital. Mr. Phibun, 62 years old, a villager, was accidentally shot while trying to stop the gun from going off, grazed under his left armpit, and was sent to IMH Thonburi Hospital. Both are safe now.
The investigation found that before the incident, Mr. Kanokphon had a gun and argued with Mr. Chusak at a second-hand jeans stall not far away. He then shot Mr. Chusak and pointed the gun at Mr. Chusak's wife, but Mr. Phibun and a good citizen who saw the incident tried to stop him from grabbing the gun, causing it to go off and hit Mr. Phibun in the left armpit. Mr. Kanokphon then ran back to the jeans stall and shot himself.
Mrs. Noi, 65, the deceased's wife, said that the cause was a fight over a pair of pants, competing for customers. She had clashed with Mr. Chusak many times. After her husband shot Mr. Chusak, he came back and told her, "Go shoot Mr. Chusak to death." She scolded him and said, "Go shoot someone to death and you'll go to jail," but her husband said, "You won't go to jail," before shooting himself to escape the crime.
