IPU President Praises Thai Parliament for Young Member Representation

Tashkent: Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the House of Representatives and President of the National Assembly, engaged in bilateral discussions with Dr. Tulia Akson, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU), during the 150th Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, from April 4 to 11, 2025. The focus of the discussions was the commendable representation of young members in the Thai parliament, which surpasses the global average.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Matha emphasized Thailand's commitment to supporting the IPU's role and highlighted the significant representation of women and young individuals in Thai politics. This is exemplified by Thailand's young Prime Minister, who is in his 30s, and the Leader of the Opposition, who is under 40, reflecting the increased participation of the new generation in parliamentary roles.

The IPU President extended condolences for the recent earthquake in Thailand and expressed hopes for a swift recovery, including the successful search for missing individuals. He commended the Thai government's efforts and the parliament's effective response to the disaster. The President also lauded the Thai parliament for its proactive approach in promoting young and female parliamentarians, noting that their representation exceeds the global average.
