“Icecream” Urges Thais to Be Cautious of Hun Sen’s Remarks on Thai Politics

Bangkok: "Icecream" has issued a warning to the Thai populace against placing too much trust in statements made by Hun Sen, the President of the Cambodian Senate, concerning the appointment of a new Thai prime minister within three months. He emphasized that the critical focus should be on resolving the murder case of a Cambodian opposition figure in Bangkok, which could serve as a means to garner international support. He stressed that ignoring this issue might lead society to question the government's awareness and intentions, while also responding to Cambodia's allegations of disrupting regional friendships. He underscored the necessity of addressing any threats to stability and citizens' quality of life.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu, a spokesperson for the People's Party and MP for the party list, spoke about the recent remarks made by Samdech Hun Sen, indicating a possible change in Thailand's leadership. Mr. Parit suggested that these comments by Hun Sen might be an attempt to influence Thai politics and urged the government not to be swayed by them. Instead, he urged the Thai government to prioritize the investigation of the Cambodian opposition leader's murder in Thailand, a matter of human rights that requires immediate attention.

Mr. Parit further stated that pursuing this investigation could enhance Thailand's standing on the international stage by demonstrating a commitment to human rights and universal principles. He highlighted that resolving this issue could be advantageous in any potential disputes with Cambodia that might escalate internationally. He noted that failure to act might raise suspicions about the prime minister's awareness and involvement, especially since the incident took place during Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra's tenure as Prime Minister.

Addressing Cambodia's accusations of Thailand disseminating information that paints Cambodia as a hub for call center crimes, Mr. Parit argued for the importance of international cooperation. He asserted that while ASEAN promotes a sense of community, Thailand should not overlook actions by neighboring countries that compromise the stability and well-being of its citizens. He emphasized that international alliances should not be built at the expense of Thai people's safety and quality of life.

When asked about the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Parit mentioned an upcoming meeting led by Mr. Rangsiman Rome, Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, to discuss state security and bilateral negotiations. Mr. Marist Sengiampong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been invited to clarify the situation, although it remains uncertain whether he will attend in person. Mr. Parit stressed that involving the international community is crucial, and that a firm stance on human rights can serve as an advantage for Thailand, beyond merely upholding rights.
