Bangkok: Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra joined in wishing a happy 70th birthday to Chart Pattana Party leader Suwat Liptapanlop, confirming that the Prime Minister has not yet adjusted the Cabinet. He declined to answer whether the ministerial position was a gift or not, saying it was a coincidence that he was not the Prime Minister, but only the Prime Minister's father.
According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin traveled to Suwat's residence in the Ratchawithi area to celebrate the occasion. Upon arrival, he presented Suwat with a birthday gift, contributing to a joyful atmosphere. Reporters inquired about the nature of the gift, to which Thaksin responded that it was a small token since Suwat already had everything. During the visit, Suwat humorously recalled that Thaksin's previous birthday visits coincided with cabinet reshuffles, a remark that elicited laughter from Thaksin, who expressed a desire to avoid any issues stemming from such coincidences.
During an interview with the media, Thaksin addressed rumors of a potential cabinet reshuffle. He stated that regular discussions with the Prime Minister assured him that a reshuffle was not imminent, as the current team was functioning well despite minor issues. He emphasized that any internal coalition party adjustments would require careful timing and should not involve just a few individuals unless there are vacancies or resignations. Thaksin is confident that the Prime Minister has not made any changes yet.
Regarding rumors that the Kla Tham Party might seek changes involving Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat and Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, Thaksin revealed no discussions have taken place on this matter. When questioned about Lt. Col. Thammanat's suitability for a ministerial role, Thaksin reiterated that no discussions had occurred. He acknowledged that while there had been consultations with the Prime Minister regarding cabinet adjustments, ultimate decision-making power remains with the Prime Minister.
When asked if the birthday gift to Suwat was a ministerial position, Thaksin humorously deflected, noting that it was not a coincidence that he was not the prime minister but merely the prime minister's father.
