Grand Opening of Thailand and International Athletics Championships Draws 12 Nations for Royal Trophy

Pathum Thani: The National Athletics Center in Pathum Thani Province hosted the opening ceremony of the 69th Thailand Open Track and Field Championships 2025. The event was chaired by Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda, President of the Athletics Association, alongside Pol. Maj. Gen. Rungroj Thakoonpunyasiri, Senior Vice President and Chairman of the Competition, Mr. Somkid Janthamrik, Governor of Pathum Thani Province, and Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamronwit Toopkrachang, President of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somkid Chanthamrik highlighted that the competition aims to discover and nurture young talents to become national athletes and to foster unity, sportsmanship, and discipline, aligning with His Majesty the King's vision for sports as a tool for national development. Pol. Lt. Col. Rungroj emphasized that the event seeks to advance Thai sports to the international level, providing a platform for both youth and senior athletes to display their potential. T he competition is framed around the concept of 'excellent sports,' considered vital for the country's long-term development. The opening ceremony featured a procession with the royal trophy and a parade of athletes and flags from the 12 participating countries, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The event honors His Majesty the King and encourages the athletes by showcasing their abilities on an international stage. The championships are scheduled from June 20-25, 2025, at the National Athletics Center, Sam Khok District, Pathum Thani Province. The competition includes six categories, covering both track and field events. Participants range from male and female public categories to under-18 and under-15 youth categories, with over 2,800 athletes from national and international teams. The event will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube by the Athletics Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage.
