Government Mobilizes Urgent Response to Tropical Storm Wipha Impact

Bangkok: The government has mobilized a comprehensive and urgent response to assist those impacted by Tropical Storm Wipha, with a particular focus on the severely affected Northern regions, including Nan Province. Khattiya Sawatdiphon, a party-list MP and deputy spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, emphasized the government's commitment to not abandoning the citizens and expediting recovery and relief efforts.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Khattiya highlighted that all relevant agencies have been instructed to provide immediate assistance, assess damage, and implement continuous relief measures. The Ministry of Finance has taken significant steps by instructing state-owned banks to suspend debt obligations, offer new loans, and provide urgent assistance to rehabilitate farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by the storm.

Furthermore, the Treasury Department has waived rental fees for Crown property in the flood-affected areas of six northern provinces: Nan, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Lampang, Chiang Mai, and Phrae. In addition, reserve funds have been extended to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to aid those impacted by diverse disasters, including flash floods, landslides, and storms.

Ms. Khattiya reiterated the Pheu Thai Party-led government's pledge to leave no citizen behind, ensuring that comprehensive rehabilitation, relief, and prevention efforts are expedited. The aim is to enable the affected communities to recover with resilience and stability from the crisis inflicted by Tropical Storm Wipha.
