Bangkok: The government has unveiled the "Travel Well, Get a Rebate 2025" initiative to invigorate the domestic tourism sector and enhance the economy. Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat extended an invitation to the public to engage in the project, which spans from October 29 to December 15, 2025. This initiative permits individuals to claim tax deductions on expenses related to hotel stays, Thai homestays, and services at VAT-registered restaurants, with a cap of 20,000 baht. The first half of this deduction can be documented with either a paper or electronic tax invoice, while the remainder requires an electronic tax invoice. Travelers in secondary cities can enjoy an enhanced deduction rate of 1.5 times, up to 30,000 baht, whereas the rate in primary cities remains 1x, with a maximum deduction of 20,000 baht.
According to Thai News Agency, the scheme extends benefits to corporate entities, allowing companies and partnerships to deduct costs incurred from domestic training or seminars during the specified period. These expenses must be processed through VAT-registered operators and documented in electronic form. Moreover, transportation expenses paid to non-VAT-registered operators qualify for deduction, provided they are supported by an electronic receipt. In secondary cities, businesses can deduct twice the actual expenses, while in primary cities, the deduction is set at 1.5 times the actual expenses.
The government has also introduced tax incentives for hotel operators to encourage property improvements and renovations, allowing them to deduct twice the actual costs until March 31, 2026. This measure aims to elevate service standards and enhance the readiness of the Thai tourism industry.
The "2025 Travel Good, Get a Return" campaign is described as a crucial government measure designed to stimulate the economy in the short term while fostering long-term growth. It aims to distribute economic benefits nationwide, encouraging both the public and businesses to utilize these tax advantages and contribute to the sustained growth of domestic tourism.
