Bangkok: The Prime Minister has directed all relevant agencies to ensure the public can travel smoothly and safely to pay respects to the Royal Remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Ms. Ayrin Phanrit announced that the government has set in place several measures to assist the public. Collaborating with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), the Department of Land Transport is offering free shuttle services on key routes like Krungthep Aphiwat Station to the Grand Palace, Rangsit to the Grand Palace, Wongwian Yai to the Grand Palace, and Muang Thong Thani to the Grand Palace.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is adding special passenger cars to all regular trains and arranging special trains on at least three routes, including Bangkok to Ayutthaya, Bangkok to Chachoengsao, and Bangkok to Nakhon Pathom, to accommodate increased passenger numbers during special event days.
The electric train system operator will enhance the frequency of train services during peak hours, focusing on Sanam Chai Station and nearby stations. Additional staff will be on hand to facilitate ticket sales, ensuring convenient and efficient travel.
Moreover, the Marine Department is setting up free ferry services between Wang Lang Pier and Tha Phra Chan Pier, Tha Tien Pier, and Wat Arun Pier. They are also coordinating with boat operators on the Saen Saep Canal and the Chao Phraya River to accommodate those preferring water travel.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has emphasized a public-centered approach, instructing all agencies to support the public in expressing their condolences and paying their respects to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
