Bangkok: The Office of the Senate Secretariat has announced that 14 candidates have applied to fill two vacant positions on the Election Commission (EC). The application period, which is set to close tomorrow, has seen a diverse range of applicants.
According to Thai News Agency, the application process opened on 9 June 2025 and will close on 23 June 2025, allowing candidates to submit their applications during office hours, excluding public holidays. As of 22 June 2025, the list of applicants includes individuals from various professional backgrounds, all vying for the crucial roles within the EC.
The candidates include Mr. Anan Suwanrat, 65, a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Mr. Monthon Sutprasert, 64, a former Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning; and Associate Professor Pitiya Charupoonphon, 65, a former Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at Mahidol University. Other notable applicants are Mr. Chaisak Onpradit, 65, a lawyer, and Mr. Narong Rakroi, 62, a former Governor of Samut Sakhon Province.
Further applicants are Associate Professor Chanatat Boonrattanakittiphum, 63, a former Assistant to the President of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang; Professor Pol. Maj. Gen. Pongkulthorn Rojanawirun, 55, a professor at the Faculty of Police Science Royal Police Cadet Academy; and Mr. Wuttipong Netithirat, 48, President of the Lawyers Council of Loei Province. The list continues with Assistant Professor Nattarapat Phatprachanat, 62, a former senior executive of a public company, and Mr. Prasit Prawan, 56, a lawyer.
Additional candidates include Mr. Prahyat Senawirat, 67, Director of Prahyat Law Firm and former honorary advisor to the Senate's committee on studying and investigating corruption, misconduct, and promoting good governance; Mr. Nitrarat Phaetwong, 65, President of the Lawyers Council of Samut Songkhram Province and former chairman of the Election Commission of Samut Songkhram Province; Mr. Piriya Thanirananon, 58, Chief Executive Officer of Baan Suay Group (Surat Thani) Public Company Limited; and Mr. Sathit Uraiwerojanakorn, 63, an independent auditor and independent director at Chao Phraya Mahanakorn Public Company Limited, who is also a former member of the Political Party Development Fund.
