Foreign Minister Visits Myanmar, Agrees to Cooperate in Combating Crime

Naypyidaw: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals that the Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Myanmar and agreed to cooperate in solving the problem of transnational crime and call centers.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorndej Plangoon, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed that on 21-22 February 2025, Mr. Maris Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, traveled to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the invitation of U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar. This was the first visit to Myanmar as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army also joined the delegation.

During this visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held bilateral discussions with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar and paid a courtesy call on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Prime Minister of Myanmar. Both sides emphasized the close friendship and cooperation between the neighboring countries, which have had long-standing ties, and agreed to further enhance cooperation to jointly solve problems in many areas, such as suppressing transnational crimes, especially drugs, online fraud, and human trafficking; transboundary haze problems; management of the Sai and Ruak rivers to prevent flooding; cooperation on security and the economy, especially promoting peace along the Thai-Myanmar border; and cooperation for development, with an emphasis on developing Myanmar's human resources.
