Mae Ai: Rangers clashed fiercely with drug trafficking gangs on the Mae Ai border, resulting in the deaths of four criminals and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs. The confrontation occurred at two locations on the border of Ban Na Ma-un and Ban Pang Nok, Mae Sao Subdistrict, approximately 1 kilometer from the border.
According to Thai News Agency, the clash erupted when rangers, while on patrol, discovered a drug gang attempting to smuggle drugs from Myanmar into Thailand. Upon attempting to intercept the smugglers, the officers were met with gunfire. After a five-minute exchange, four members of the drug gang were found dead, with two bodies at each site. Although some gang members managed to escape, it is believed that several were injured during the confrontation.
The rangers succeeded in seizing a substantial haul of drugs, including five sacks of methamphetamine, totaling 1 million pills, and 13 sacks of crystal meth, amounting to nearly 200 kilograms. Due to the fading daylight, visibility was limited, prompting authorities to secure the area within a 1-kilometer radius to prevent the gang from returning under the cover of darkness. Further inspection by officers is expected to take place today.
