Electric Car Users Demand Quick Resolution of Spare Parts Shortage

Bangkok: Users of an electric car brand are facing prolonged delays in receiving spare parts and have turned to the Consumer Council for urgent intervention. They have issued an ultimatum, demanding that spare parts be delivered within a month.

According to Thai News Agency, a representative of the electric car brand expressed concerns after being informed that there is no set delivery date for spare parts from the parent company in China. This uncertainty is causing anxiety among users about potential failures affecting future warranties and spare parts availability. The delays, which began in mid-2024, coincide with reports of financial troubles at the parent company. Car owners have experienced long waits, particularly for essential components like wheel bearings, motor bearings, and gear bearings-parts the parent company had guaranteed to buyers. Many users also face difficulties registering for white plates due to these delays.

Additionally, there are reports of failures in the CDU box, a critical component of the car, rendering vehicles unusable and stuck at service centers. Notably, those who publicly complained received expedited replacements, spotlighting inconsistencies in service.

Car users have outlined their demands for resolving the situation, including speeding up spare parts delivery within a month, addressing vehicle license plate registration issues by June, and scheduling compensation for affected users. They also propose that the company should be obliged to take back cars if it ceases operations in Thailand. The Consumer Council has been called upon to investigate potential fraudulent activities by the company.

Itthibun Onwongsa, deputy secretary-general of the Consumer Council, has pledged to convene a meeting with distributors and relevant agencies to negotiate a resolution. Should there be no satisfactory response, legal action will be pursued, and the issue may be escalated to the Chinese embassy for further intervention by Chinese authorities.
