Egg Prices Surge Amidst Hot Weather Impacting Production

Bangkok: The price of chicken eggs has surged by an additional 20 satang per egg, effective this Monday, as a result of ongoing hot weather conditions impacting production levels.

According to Thai News Agency, the increase, effective from April 28, has been attributed to a reduction in egg production due to the extreme heat. The hot weather has stressed the chickens, leading to fewer eggs being laid. Compounding the issue, some small-scale farmers have experienced the death of chickens raised in open systems, further limiting the supply.

The network of four egg farmers' cooperatives has announced a new recommended price for mixed eggs at the farmer's cooperative, setting it at 3.60 baht per egg for eggs weighing 20.5 kg and up. This adjustment reflects the challenging weather conditions and is expected to persist as long as the situation remains unchanged.

Mr. Chanuwat Siwamok, Deputy Secretary of the Egg Farmers Association, explained that the recent low prices had led some farmers to release their hens from cages to cut costs, thereby reducing the overall supply in the market. While demand for eggs remains stable, the constrained supply is likely to drive prices up further.

Looking ahead, the current trend suggests a continued slight increase in prices until weather conditions stabilize. Once the climate becomes less volatile, production levels are expected to normalize, leading to a gradual decrease in prices in alignment with market mechanisms.
