DSI Investigates Land Encroachment in Chana District, Nearly 800 Rai

Chana: DSI went to inspect the area of Chana District, Songkhla Province after local residents complained that capitalists had encroached on almost 800 rai of their land. Initial findings showed several irregularities in the issuance of land title deeds.

According to Thai News Agency, the Southern Border Provinces Special Case Operation Center, Department of Special Investigation (DSI), together with relevant agencies, brought forces to investigate evidence of possession and boundary markers of almost 800 rai of land next to the Gulf of Thailand in Village 7, Taling Chan Subdistrict, Chana District, Songkhla Province. Local residents have been voicing concerns since the end of 2024 that this land, divided into 22 large plots, more than 149 rai next to the sea and more than 630 rai next to a rural highway, was likely encroached. The Southern Border Provinces DSI had previously obtained initial information revealing that this plot of land had a title deed issued by the Land Department in 1987. The owner, domiciled in Bangkok, holds a single plot of NS3 Kor title deed, which has been divided for sale and remained unused for more than 30 years. The DSI has requested the land owner to present documents regarding the suspicious issuance of the title deed, but the o wner did not comply. Consequently, officers inspected the boundary markers and the surrounding area to verify their accordance with the title deed.

Mr. Chetana Hemmun, Director of the Southern Border Provinces Special Case Operation Center, Department of Special Investigation, mentioned that several suspicious points were identified during the examination of the evidence, such as the unclear acquisition process of the title deed and the recent growth of plants unrelated to the land ownership acquisition. Additionally, the nearby land remains forested, with a history of similar encroachment cases covering more than 200 rai. Confident in their findings, Mr. Hemmun requested permission from the Department of Special Investigation to continue investigating this plot of land. He expressed that it is expected to be resolved promptly. He further highlighted that over 70% of the cases investigated by the DSI in the southern border provinces involve forest encroachment, with this case being straightforward, pending evidence examination.
