DSI Arrests Directors of Luxury Car Import Companies for 44 Million Baht Tax Evasion

Bangkok: DSI arrests directors of a luxury car import company for tax evasion, causing 44 million baht in damages to the state, and will be prosecuted.

According to Thai News Agency, the Investigation, Tracking and Intelligence Center of the Department of Special Investigation apprehended Mr. Ekasit, a suspect under the Criminal Court arrest warrant No. 2578/2567. The arrest, carried out on May 26 at around 3:50 p.m., took place in front of his residence in Don Mueang Subdistrict, Don Mueang District, Bangkok. Mr. Ekasit was charged with avoiding or attempting to avoid paying taxes on imported goods, in violation of the Customs Act B.E. 2560. The arresting officers informed him of the charges, his rights under the Criminal Procedure Code, and the need to continuously record images and audio during the arrest and detention.

The accused were directors of a company involved in importing four luxury cars, specifically three Lamborghinis and one Range Rover, from the United Kingdom to Thailand. They falsely declared the purchase price of these vehicles, leading customs officials to miscalculate the taxes owed, resulting in a 44 million baht shortfall to the state.

The operation was part of a directive by Pol. Maj. Col. Yuthana Phraedam, Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation, and Pol. Maj. Col. Chatuphol Bongkochmas, Deputy Director-General. They tasked the Investigation, Tracking and Intelligence Center with organizing a task force to apprehend suspects with outstanding arrest warrants, ensuring that those accused of crimes are brought into the justice system.
