Drunk Driver Hits Family on Motorcycle, Leaves Scene Engulfed in Flames

Bangkok: A shocking incident unfolded as a pickup truck driver, identified as Mr. Pitak, aged 49, collided with a motorcycle carrying a family of three, seriously injuring the father, mother, and child. The crash, captured on a dashboard camera, occurred at the entrance of Soi Bang Bon 5, Soi 5, and led to the motorcycle being dragged until it was engulfed in flames. Despite the severity of the accident, Mr. Pitak fled the scene without stopping to assist the injured family.

According to Thai News Agency, the collision resulted in significant injuries to Mr. Akkaradet, aged 44, who was driving the motorcycle, his wife Ms. Kanokrat, aged 31, who sustained serious injuries, and their 5-year-old child, referred to as Mr. A. The surveillance footage reveals that Mr. Pitak did not attempt to slow down before hitting the motorcycle, which was exiting an alley. The aftermath saw the pickup truck continue into Bang Bon 5, Soi 7, with concerned citizens eventually apprehending the intoxicated driver.

Following the incident, Mr. Pitak was taken to Bang Bon Police Station, where his blood alcohol level was measured before he was released on bail. The next day, Mr. Pitak returned to the station with his mother to provide a statement to investigators. Visibly emotional, he expressed remorse for the accident, claiming he did not see the motorcycle and did not intend to flee. Despite his apologies, Mr. Pitak faces three charges: reckless driving causing serious injury, fleeing the scene, and driving under the influence.
