Drug-crazed Man Attacks Police, Injuring Four Officers in Chaiyaphum

Chaiyaphum: Thepsathit Police Station in Chaiyaphum Province subdued a drug-crazed man who chased and slashed police officers while they were trying to stop the incident, injuring four officers. He was charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

According to Thai News Agency, Thepsathit Police Station led 10 officers with forked weapons to stop Mr. Amnuay, 50 years old, who was severely addicted to methamphetamine and was assaulting his mother at his house in Tambon Watabaek, Amphoe Thepsathit, Chaiyaphum Province. While the police were preparing to attack about 20 meters away from the house, Mr. Amnuay ran and grabbed a 40-centimeter long machete that was placed in the house and chased after and slashed 4 police officers, injuring them. Pol. Lt. Udom Paothaisong, the team leader, was slashed with a knife on his left hand and had a bruise on his right knee; Pol. S.T. Phanupong Wongkaew was slashed in the head and required 5 stitches; Pol. S.T. Surachet Namchai was cut with a knife on his right index finger and required 3 stitches; and Pol. S.T. Phatcharaphong Chomnawang had a minor abrasion on his right little finger.

Finally, Mr. Amnuay was arrested and brought to the police station for prosecution on the night of June 7. Yesterday morning (June 8), Mr. Amnuay was still under the influence of the drug and ran away from the station while his fingerprints were being taken. The police chased after him and tried to arrest him, but he struggled and resisted arrest. Initially, he was charged with 3 counts: assaulting an officer while performing his duty, attempting to kill an officer while performing his duty, and using drugs. He was taken for prosecution.
