Bangkok: Dr. Rung-Witaya has been nominated to be the Governor of the Bank of Thailand. The selection committee has chosen Dr. Rung-Witaya to compete for this prestigious position.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pornchai Thiravet, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office and Secretary of the Selection Committee for the Governor of the Bank of Thailand, disclosed that the selection committee meeting was held to choose individuals who should be nominated as the Governor. The process involved allowing applicants to present their visions, after which the committee considered two individuals for nomination. These nominations have been forwarded to the Minister of Finance and the Cabinet for further deliberation. The entire selection process is expected to conclude by July 2, 2025.
Mr. Sathit Limpongpan, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Selection Committee, noted that the candidates for the position possess similar qualifications, with expertise in finance, banking, and economics. The committee conducted a secret ballot, ensuring that political influences were not considered, thus maintaining the integrity of the selection process.
The selection committee voted to propose two candidates deemed suitable for the role: Dr. Rung Mallikamas, Deputy Governor for Financial Institution Stability at the Bank of Thailand, and Mr. Vitai Ratanakorn, Director of Government Savings Bank.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira emphasized the urgency of finalizing the selection. He expressed a desire for a BOT governor who would collaborate effectively with the Finance Ministry to advance the country's economic interests.
