Disciplinary Committee Formed to Investigate Police Sergeant’s Actions in Motorcycle Incident

Bangkok: A disciplinary committee has been established to investigate the actions of a police sergeant who was involved in an incident where a rider and passenger were dragged off their motorcycle, causing them to fall. The Pathumwan Police Station Superintendent has confirmed the formation of the committee, acknowledging that the officer employed inappropriate tactics.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Sirichat Chanphromma, Superintendent of Pathumwan Police Station, convened a meeting with the Police Operations Center to address the incident. During the meeting, it was revealed that the commanding officer had called for a review of the tactics used to manage such situations. If the review yields clear results, a directive will be issued to ensure consistent operations throughout the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

The police sergeant involved in the incident reportedly acted with the intention of enforcing the law but admitted to using incorrect methods. The commanding officer is currently considering a disciplinary investigation. The police officer in question has been placed on leave for treatment due to injuries sustained and will not resume traffic duties until the investigation concludes. Meanwhile, the injured rider will be summoned for a detailed inquiry.

The officer, with over a year of traffic duty experience, was expected to possess the skills to assess appropriate tactics. However, the specifics of the situation remain unclear. Initially, the police aimed to quickly address the issue as the incident stemmed from a motorcycle running a traffic light, resulting in an accident with a car that left the motorcycle with a broken leg. The intention was to prevent further severe incidents.

The Pathumwan Police Station Superintendent outlined standard procedures for handling such incidents, emphasizing that reports of traffic light violations necessitate arrests or fines. In more serious cases, intervention using the Stop and Stick method is required.

The latest update confirms that a disciplinary investigation committee has been established for the police officer of the rank "Pol. Sgt. Maj." involved in the incident. This occurred in front of a well-known shopping mall, resulting in injuries to both the rider and passenger. The deputy chief of investigation will lead the committee, with the investigation expected to be completed within seven days.
