National defence studies institute: Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces insists on the meticulous construction of electronic fences at the Khlong Luek checkpoint in Aranyaprathet.
According to Thai News Agency, General Ukrit Boontanon, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, emphasized the importance of careful construction of the first electronic fence along the Thai-Cambodian border at the Khlong Luek checkpoint, located in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province. He highlighted that the project requires particular caution due to its proximity to the border line, making it unsuitable for standard barbed wire fencing in certain areas.
The installation of additional electronic fences, estimated to be 2-3 more, is planned at the Aranyaprathet checkpoint. General Ukrit clarified that the construction will be possible only in areas with established boundary markers, underscoring the need for mutual agreement on these markers. He advised against using the term "dividing line" and preferred "a boundary marker agreed upon" to describe the areas where the electronic fences will be installed.
