Deputy Abbot of Maha Sarakham Temple Disrobes Amid Scandal.

Maha Sarakham: The deputy abbot of a renowned temple in Maha Sarakham Province has disrobed following a scandal involving a female devotee. Reports indicate that the deputy abbot, Phra Palat Tinphon, provided financial support to the woman without restrictions, prompting ecclesiastical authorities to intervene. According to Thai News Agency, the governing ecclesiastical authorities summoned Phra Palat Tinphon to investigate the claims. Upon learning of the allegations, Phra Tinphon decided to disrobe last night around midnight to prevent any potential damage to the temple and the Sangha. This action was taken as a preemptive measure to address concerns about the scandal's impact on the religious community. The deputy director of the National Office of Buddhism has since directed the Maha Sarakham Provincial Office of Buddhism to conduct a comprehensive investigation. The inquiry aims to determine whether the funds used by the monk were personal or if they belonged to the temple. Initial findings suggest tha t Phra Tinphon was merely a temple boy, but if it is discovered that temple funds were misused, the issue will be treated as embezzlement, a criminal offense under law. Even though Phra Tinphon has disrobed, he may still face legal consequences if temple money was involved.
